Cleanings And Exams
Having a dental practice perform a checkup and regular cleaning gives a preventive approach to dental care. These general dentistry treatments help prevent problems with your teeth, gums and jaw bones, or they catch and manage problems before they worsen. During your visit, our doctors will take a picture of the current standing of your dental health and what would be needed to keep your oral hygiene in its best state.
Teeth Whitening
A common request we receive is how to make a smile whiter and brighter. This is a relatively simple and quick treatment option that can be performed periodically. Certain foods and beverages, such as wine and coffee, stain the teeth and contribute to discoloration. The teeth whitening process provides a solution that lightens the shade of the teeth. Additionally, the process actually rids the teeth of plaque and tartar that tend to lead to dental problems.
Fillings
Composite fillings act as a dentistry solution for problems such as tooth decay or cracks. A composite filling is a tooth-colored plastic and glass mixture used to restore decayed teeth. This procedure is also utilized for cosmetic improvements of the smile by fixing any discoloration or reshaping any disfigured teeth.
Root Canals
Root canal treatment is a procedure used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed before it becomes infected. Additionally, when a tooth is fractured or suffers an exposed nerve, it can be extremely painful. Infection can develop, leading to swelling of the face and other visible symptoms. In these instances, a root canal is required to alleviate symptoms and save the tooth. During the root canal procedure, the nerve is removed from the inside of the tooth or canal, and then the canals are rinsed, cleaned, and sealed. After Root Canal treatment, the tooth can be restored by a crown in most cases.
Our clients at Pine Park Family Dentistry include adults and children of all ages across Bemidji, Brainerd, Detroit Lakes, Menahga, Park Rapids, Sebeka, Wadena, Walker, and other surrounding MN communities. The root canal treatment provided by our team includes removing the damaged pulp from the inside of the tooth. We clean out the resulting space and remove anything that is infected. Then, we place a filling inside where the root and pulp were previously located. A root canal can help preserve your tooth, reducing the need for a tooth extraction and a complete artificial replacement.
Extractions
Sometimes teeth extractions are an unavoidable necessity to maintain a clean and healthy oral hygiene. For children, if the baby tooth isn’t coming out on its own, and the adult tooth is ready to come in, removing the baby tooth is the best way to allow the adult tooth to correctly grow. Other times, an adult tooth is so badly damaged that it needs to be removed to protect the rest of your mouth. At Pine Park Family Dentistry, we perform professional teeth extractions for people just like you in Bemidji, Brainerd, Detroit Lakes, Menahga, Park Rapids, Sebeka, Wadena, Walker, and many other surrounding MN communities.
The thought of teeth extractions can make people nervous, but at Pine Park Family dentistry, we properly sedate and numb you before we begin. Our team has plenty of experience soothing your nerves effectively and then quickly and safely extracting the damaged or infected tooth. We also have experience doing “hot” extractions, where the gum tissue around the tooth is already infected and inflamed, and additional steps are required to promote your oral health and tooth longevity. Once the extraction procedure is complete, you’ll be given antibiotics to help prevent future infection.
Veneers
Porcelain Veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length. We recommend this treatment to anyone experiencing discoloration that cannot be fixed with whitening or if your teeth are damaged. Porcelain veneers are also an option if you’re unhappy with the shape or look of your natural teeth.
Dentures
Dentures are appliances that restore one or more missing teeth. They can be partially fixed or removable, by receiving support form underlying bone and tissue, and some for remaining teeth. Full dentures are devices that replace all dentition of upper and lower jaw.
What are the advantages for partials or dentures?
• They can help you chew your food better.
• Your cheeks and lips can be supported and your face does not sag.
• Helps speak better and improves pronunciation in most cases when front teeth are missing.
• Prevents remaining teeth to shift or move into the space of missing tooth.
We recommend to come for an initial exam and cleaning to assess remaining dentition to determine if teeth need restorative treatment such as fillings or crowns before fabrication of partials or dentures. The procedure of dentures involves impressions of your upper and lower teeth or jaws and following appointments, to restore the appearance, function, and phonetics.

Crowns and Bridges
A dental crown is a cover or “cap ” that restores the tooth to its normal shape, size and function. It protects the tooth, making it stronger and improving the way it looks. At Pine Park Family Dentistry, we offer dental crowns to provide essential protection and coverage for damaged teeth. This is both for your oral health and for the overall appearance of your smile. A dental crown is carefully fitted over the damaged tooth to reduce more damage to the tooth after the procedure has been completed. After the crown is in place, you shouldn’t notice anything different about the way that you smile, chew, talk, or even play a musical instrument.
Pine Park Family Dentistry serves patients in Bemidji, Brainerd, Detroit Lakes, Menahga, Park Rapids, Sebeka, Wadena, Walker, and many other surrounding MN communities. In addition to dental crowns, we also offer bridges, which are artificial teeth that “bridge” the gap left by a missing tooth, or large sections of missing teeth structure. These partial dentures keep your existing teeth from crowding or spreading apart and allow you to chew food and talk more easily. Additionally, the bridge covers the space from the missing tooth without the need for any invasive implant procedures.
Pediatric Dentistry
At Pine Park Family Dentistry, our favorite patients in Bemidji, Brainerd, Detroit Lakes, Menahga, Park Rapids, Sebeka, Wadena, Walker, and beyond are our smallest ones! As an experienced pediatric dentist, we understand that children can be nervous about the unfamiliar equipment, loud noises, and environment of the dentist office. We carefully work with your little ones to soothe their fears and go slowly when we perform exams and cleaning, to make sure that they aren’t nervous or upset throughout the cleaning or other dental procedures.
Occasionally, a child needs more intense services from their pediatric dentists, such as a cavity filling or deeper cleaning to remove stubborn tartar. Pine Park Family Dentistry will offer sedation or nitrous oxide to help your child stay still, calm, and relaxed during the process. Our services also include the development and assembly of retainers, braces, and other night appliances to promote strong and healthy development for children with crooked or crowded teeth.
Preventative Dentistry
Your teeth are important not only for smiling and appearance but also for chewing, eating, and speaking. There is a connection between a healthy mouth and a healthy body. Tooth decay and periodontal (gum) disease are caused by bacteria in the dental plaque. This soft plaque accumulates at the gum line during the day after eating, which if not removed results in red and swollen gums that bleed easily. It also causes caries and it progresses to destruction of gum tissue, bone loss around teeth and eventually, teeth can be lost.
Making the choice to adopt a daily tooth brushing and flossing would make a big difference in how you look and feel, but most important in your overall health.
Good oral home habits are important, but also a balanced diet and seeking regular professional dental care. Regular exams by dentist evaluate your mouth by checking your teeth, oral and gum tissue, tongue, and checking for signs of oral cancer. Taking x-rays help to evaluate for early detection of caries periodontal (gum) disease, and other conditions that can be treated easier and in a timely manner.
Dental cleaning is performed by our dental hygienist who cleans your teeth by removing stains, plaque, and tartar that cant’t be removed by regular brushing. This tartar needs to be removed by special skills and dental tools. We also check the gums and bone level, and review proper brushing and flossing techniques at home.
